The event will take place at the popular club ‘Luz de Gas’ in Barcelona. Twelve finalists will compete to be the Best International Cava Barman’.
The contest was conceived for professional bartenders only, and visited cities like London, New York, Barcelona, Madrid, Malaga and San Sebastian during 2017 and 2018, where more than 150 bartenders competed for a place in the final.
Twelve finalists, each for every city, will compete in two tests next Tuesday in Barcelona. In the first qualifying test the participants will have to create a cocktail following the indications provided by a ‘mysterious box’. The three bartenders with the best recipes will enter the final test, where they’ll have to elaborate an original recipe. The winning recipe will be known as ‘Cocktail Barcelona’ and promoted worldwide. A professional jury will evaluate the tests and announce the winner.
The winner will earn a cash prize of 2,000 euros and a contract to be ‘The Best International Cava Barman’ for a year. The bartenders who finish in second and third place will receive 1,000 euros and 500 euros, respectively, and a trophy.
The jury will include Eduardo Campos, barman at ‘Negroni’; the prestigious barman at ‘Enigma’, Marc Álvarez; sommelier Juan Muñoz; gastronomy journalist Carme Gasull and the chairman of the Federation of Spanish Bartender Associations, Kepa Madariaga.
The competition was conceived to explore new cava expressions through the art of cocktails, to integrate cava as a key ingredient for cocktail professionals and to promote its use among young consumers.
