Vilafranca del Penedès, November 2019 – The first edition of the Cava Academy Belgium was completed this week in Brussels with three students from the Belgian on- and off- trade winning a trip to DO Cava, thanks to their outstanding performance on the course.

Belgian retailers and restaurateurs Natasja Pattyn from Espavino, Bob Driege from Vin Il Ya and Dirk Borremans from the Big Ben Restaurant came out top of class after the three day course which is designed to educate trade professionals about the unique values of premium Cava form Penedés.

Attending the final day’s course Javier Pagés, the president of the DO Cava said, “The turn out for our first ever Cava Academy in Belgium has been excellent and the quality and professionalism of the students outstanding.

“We are here to get Cava into the spotlight as a versatile and quality sparkling wine. The Cava Academy programme is part of a world-wide campaign to highlight the richness and complexity of the nuances that Cava has. We want to educate and inspire professionals from the wine sector about Cava, whilst communicating to consumers about the uniqueness of Cava – its terroir, its native varietals, the traditional winemaking process and ageing capacity.
